So who would like to explain how modern liberalism varies from classical liberalism? In addition, in what ways is classical liberalism similar to conservatism today?
Classical liberalism focuses on the smaller role of the government in citizens’ lives and champions the presence of dual values of private property and private life. On the other hand, modern liberalism supports an active role of government and calls for equality and social support to all citizens. However these two schools of thought acknowledge the importance of a state in promoting the wellbeing of individuals. Classical liberalism closely relates to conservatism in that both ideologies stress on the importance of government “letting people be” this means that both insist of less government controls.
